Turtle Island Warclubs presents:

Beloved Warrior Woman

A visual tribute to indigenous matriarchal warriors throughout our ancestors, families and history

Beloved Warrior Women is an online exhibition that explores the perception of the modern Indigenous female as a warrior from her perspective. The exhibition is inspired by the title of “Ghigau” which is a Cherokee title for the “Beloved Woman” or “War Woman” this is a title which goes back centuries to the 1700’s. To avoid appropriation of the Cherokee title, we used a generic composite translation of “Beloved Warrior Woman” for the title for the show.

The exhibition features ten indigenous model teams from all around Turtle Island featured in stunning photo essays showing the resiliency, strength, and beauty of the indigenous matriarch. These models will gather a team of designers and photographers to assist in the visual expressions from the female indigenous perspective. Credits for designers, photographers, and any other required person will be added to the model webpage. The models have been selected by their ability to traverse common socioeconomic impediments while maintaining stability of families, careers and earning a living. In addition, their ability to think outside the box and to provide social commentary in a visual manner.

This will be an ongoing exhibition with models being added periodically to the the project. these models will vary from different roles in their community. Each model will be given a complimentary warclub from Turtle Island Warclubs to integrate into the photoshoot for promotional purposes.
